  • Minimum 5 to 6 years of experience in technical development, especially in a leadership role at a packaging R&D laboratory.
  • Relevant research experience (food or beverage industry).
  • Experience in leading project teams.

Knowledge & skills: 
  • A broad set of knowledge and skills in packaging materials, formats, conversion & application process.
  • Should have an understanding and deep appreciation for colour management principles and processes.
  • Should have mastery in paper, paper board and printing inks.

  • Scientific aptitude and analytical mind with good grounding in technology.
  • Strong fundamentals ( educational & vocational background ).


Packaging Technology Center set-up :
  • Design and develop the process and modality for all the identified test procedures and equipment. 
  • Own the overall process of operation in Packaging laboratory and build it as a differentiator with respect to the competitors.

Packaging Technology Center - testing capability:
  • Deliver Gold standards for all Innovation & Renovation projects.
  • Configure appropriate tests and statistical modelling for performance prediction and root cause analysis.
  • Leverage the laboratory in strengthening USL's capability to drive a fact based approach in design & development.
  • Design, organize, run, and report on technical assessment trials and support production trials as required.
  • Develop pack specifications through testing, data collation, and interpretation of test results.
  • Adhere to best practice and governance procedures.

Competitor Intelligence
  • Survey and study competitor products and processes so as to leverage competitive intelligence to enhance optimization of the product with respect to cost and quality.
  • Design and drive new applications and structures and ensure retaining of the IP rights. Strive to achieve Gold Standards within the Target COGS.

Packaging Design and Pack Process Engineer:
  • Deliver technical solutions for pack projects to achieve maximum differentiation - leverage consumer insights, interpret & integrate concept elements, manufacturing capabilities, sustainability guidelines, and capital costs.
  • Develop and engineer creatively and balance the commercialization requirements to ensure feasibility/ execution.
  • Seek out new pack component technologies, manufacturing methods, and process techniques for better outputs; and pro-actively share information with pack developers.
  • Actively find, support and advise (with skill) on commercial solutions to ensure project delivery - Support the sales team: compelling concepts/ consumer insights, samples, technical information, sell-in meetings.
  • Explore complex/ challenging/ uncertain design options to unlock exceptional results. Hold the tension with supply to ensure concept / commercial pack execution.
